U: Launch in allen drei Territorien gleichzeitig!

Wie gestern bereits durchgesickert ist, erfolgt der Launch der PlayStation 3 nicht wie angekündigt noch im Frühjahr, sondern erst Anfang November. Das bestätigte Ken Kutaragi, Präsident von Sony Computer Entertainment,  heute auf dem PlayStation Business Briefing.

Darüber hinaus gab man bei Sony auch bekannt, die PlayStation 3 weltweit gleichzeitig launchen zu wollen, womit die Next-Gen-Konsole dann im November in Japan, in den USA und in Europa erscheinen wird. Nach dem Release will Sony pro Monat eine Million Konsolen produzieren, wobei für das Finanzjahr 2006 (Endet am 31. März 2007) alleine sechs Millionen Stück geplant sind. Damit liegt die Produktionsmenge höher als im Vergleichszeitraum der PS one und PS2. Bei vier Mal einer Million bleiben jedoch nur rund zwei Millionen Einheiten für den weltweiten Launch im November - wer nicht vorbestellt, dürfte leer ausgehen.

Ferner kündigte man an, dass PlayStation 3-Spiele ausschließlich auf Blu-Ray-Discs (BD-ROM) ausgeliefert werden, um Raubkopien zu vermeiden. Selbstverständlich werden Spiele für die PS2 und Filme auf DVD ebenfalls abspielbar sein. Die initiale Produktion soll in Japan 2,5 Millionen und in den USA bzw. Europa bei 5 Millionen Einheiten liegen. Die Kosten für die Herstellung einer Blu-Ray-Disc entsprechen in etwa der einer Dual Layer-DVD.
 
Die Developer Kits sind mittlerweile ebenfalls final und sollen dann im Juni an die Entwickler ausgeliefert werden.

Users can also connect PS3 to high-speed broadband network through Gigabit Ethernet and comfortably enjoy a wide-range of rich and exciting content and services over the network.
